President elect Roshan Wickremanayake’s speech at the Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Association of NSW Inc. held on the 30th of October 2011 at the Rebellion Room, Castle Grand, Castle Hill.
I humbly accept the decision made by our members to elect me as president of the Sri Lanka Association of NSW Inc. I would like to thank every member who voted, helped and supported all the candidates at this election.
I also would like to thank the returning officers Ananda, Sanath and Cecil. It has no doubt been a difficult period for the committee and my self in this election process.
I have worked with and supported this Association for the last 15 years with much passion and commitment, being actively involved in the running and participation of its activities. Our aim is to work with all Sri Lankans irrespective of their ethnicity, religion and social standing within the framework of a United and Democratic Sri Lanka.
My committee consists of many members with wide and varied experiences in their chosen fields, and we bring our experiences together to collectively serve the community, the Association and its activities.
During the coming year I hope to appoint a committee for the retirement village project. We will also actively be involved in membership drives to get new members to this Association. I believe that every committee should endeavor to do this as a priority every year.
It is my belief that the Association news letter “Thorathuru” should be circulated as a hard copy, therefore we will make arrangements to post the news letter to all members of the Association.
I am proud to say that although we have been disturbed by the circulation of some anonymous, threatening and indecent and false accusations, we are strengthened by the unity and support we have received from the members and our friends.
Finally I would like to thank you all for your ongoing support and the encouragement you gave me and my committee throughout this past few weeks. Looking forward to see you at the events during this year too.
Thank You
Roshan Wickremanayake
President
Sri Lanka Association of NSW
